About Us
Transforming healthcare. Advancing knowledge. Serving humanity.
Our History
Our journey began in 1972 when visionary leaders recognized the need for a specialized medical institution. After a decade of careful planning and deliberation, the College of Medicine became a reality on December 3, 1982, when President Alhaji Shehu Shagari signed the University of Nigeria Statute No. 2 into law. This historic moment marked the birth of what would become one of Nigeria's premier medical institutions.
From our founding with two pioneering faculties under the leadership of Prof. R.M. Anikwe, our first Provost, and Prof. S.C. Ohaegbulam, the first Dean of Medical Sciences and Dentistry, we have grown into a comprehensive medical education powerhouse that continues to set standards in healthcare education
